Chatham library board discusses discarded items, collection weeding

The Chatham, Illinois Area Public Library District Board discussed matters relating discarded items during its recent meeting.

There was a higher than typical number of discarded collection items because of a weeding process that is currently being carried out by library staff. The board also heard from a staff member detailing the criteria for what is discarded and what is able to remain in the library’s possession.

Under the director's report, circulation statistics for the months of November and December of 2015 were reported as positive.

The board also discussed electrical problems that had been occurring, which are being addressed by B & B Electric and will continue to be monitored.

The board also voted to approve a measure to move the reference area of the facility and to install more seating. This would also consist of additional shelving at the cost of $753, This and an annual report from the Friends of the Library were also approved during this meeting.
