Chatham Planning Commission discussed zoning mendment at recent meeting
The Village of Chatham, Illinois Planning Commission considered an amendment to the zoning code that would permit chickens to be kept within residential zones at its meeting this week.
Concerns had been raised regarding the size requirements for keeping and caring for chickens and the proximity of the animal’s housing to neighboring property.
A motion was made to have the commission conduct more research into potential risks of allowing chickens in residential districts and the potential benefits and present draft amendments to be presented at the next commission meeting. That motion was approved.
