Springfield Public School Board to consider job cuts

Springfieldpublicschools

The Board of Education for the Springfield, Illinois Public Schools District will be discussing resolutions to eliminate certain positions during its meeting on Monday, March 21.

The proposed resolution states that the current financial situation cannot support the number of non-certified employees currently working in the district. The district also states that the number of non-certified employees associated with the Lawrence Education Center program will also be reduced due to changes in the grant funding for the program.

Should the board approve these resolutions, the dismissal of employees would take place at the conclusion of the current school year. Both the Director and Superintendent of the district, Gina McLaughlin-Schurman and Jennifer Gill, signed both resolutions, recommending their approval.

Included in the agenda is a copy of what individuals would receive upon being dismissed from employment. It states in this notice that rehiring is possible for the 2016-17 school year. There are no indications regarding how many positions will be eliminated if both resolutions pass.

This meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p,.m,. and will begin with an executive session that will be discussing matters that are sensitive, that may consist of security procedure discussions, employment matters, contract negotiations and individual student matters.

The Springfield Public Schools office is located at 1900 West Monroe St., Springfield.
