Sherman Public Library Board Regular Meeting Board of Trustees met March 15.

Here is the minutes as provided by the board:

The regular monthly meeting of the Sherman Public Library Board convened at 6:00 p.m. Present were

Library Director Rachel Kocis and Board members Julie Horton, Bob Shurig, Mary Contri, Melissa Allen,

Gale Kilbury and Elizabeth Heubner.

Items for Consideration Not on the Agenda: The Board reviewed the progress of the Strategic Planning

Committee. The Board had some recommendations for the committee. Liz Heubner will email Bev

Obert, the planning coordinator to touch base and address concerns.

Secretary’s Report: It was moved by Julie Horton and seconded by Gale Kilbury to approve the minutes

from the January 18, 2017 regular meeting. The motion was approved. Gale Kilbury made a motion to

approve the minutes of the February 15, 2017 regular meeting. Bob Shurig seconded the motion. The

motion carried unanimously.

Treasurers/Financial Report: Mary Contri made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report for January.

Bob Shurig seconded the motion, and the motion carried by a unanimous voice vote. Mary Contri made

a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report for February and to pay the bills. Gale Kilbury seconded the

motion, and the motion carried by a unanimous voice vote. Julie Horton made a motion for the

ratification of bills and payments from January. Gale Kilbury seconded the motion, and a unanimous

voice vote was recorded. Liz Heubner made a motion to pay the February mortgage payment from the

Special Reserves account. Melissa Allen seconded the motion and a unanimous voice vote in favor was

taken.

The Board reviewed the building limit amounts on our current insurance policy from Forsyth Insurance.

Further clarification was needed on a few items. Rachel will seek further information and report back to

the Board at the March 27 meeting.

Librarian’s Report: Circulation for the month of February 2017 was was 2122 items circulated 2730

times, which is an increase of 1079 checkouts from one year ago There were 113 e-books and 3 eaudiobooks

checked out through 3M Cloud. The Sherman Public Library has borrowed 2405 items and

loaned 1844 items through the Interlibrary Loan (SHARE) program for the fiscal year to date. Also in this

fiscal year, the Library has borrowed 11 items and loaned 49 items through World Share.

Rachel briefly reviewed knowledge and information gained from her recent attendance at the Illinois

Youth Services Institute. She also reported on her recent collaboration with the librarians from the

various buildings in the Williamsville-Sherman school district as well as with All His Children. Julie

reminded Board members to file their Statements of Economic Interest if this has not already been done

for the current year.

Upcoming programs include Sew For the Fun of It!, the Crochet for Charity Program, and iPad and

iPhone Basics. A student volunteer from SASED is working four hours per week at the library as well.

The Board needs to continue to address the need for job descriptions for all library employees. A

discussion of personal online usage by employees was also held. The election for new board members is

also approaching in April. Melissa Allen and Bob Shurig are not seeking reelection. Julie Horton is on

the ballot for April.
