Reiterating his call for a property tax freeze, Gov. Bruce Rauner released a new digital ad in which he attacks Democrats for refusing to cut spending or work toward reform, according to the Illinois Republican Party.
“For far too long, we have been living beyond our means, spending money that Illinois taxpayers could not afford,” Rauner says in the ad.
According to a Chicago Tribune article, the Senate's latest budget plan would increase tax revenue by approximately $5.4 billion by increasing the state income tax to 4.95 percent from 3.75 percent to 4.95 percent and the corporate income tax rate to 7 percent from 5.25 percent. It also would expand the state sales tax.
“It’s a stunning failure again by the Senate Democrats – passing a massive tax hike without passing true, lasting property tax relief,” Rauner says in the ad.
Besides the property tax freeze, Rauner has pushed for term limits for state and local politicians and reforms to grow the state’s economy, the GOP said in a press release.
