Sangamon County Jail Committee met November 21.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

Members present: Joel Tjelmeland (chairman), Catie Sheehan (vice-chairman), Tony DelGiorno, Annette Fulgenzi, Tim Krell, George Preckwinkle, Rose Ruzic & Linda Douglas-Williams,

Members absent: Tom Madonia

Others present: Sheriff Wes Barr, Jail Superintendent Larry Beck, Deputy Coroner Jim Allmon, Tim Eggleston, & Mary Carter (secretary)

Chairman Tjelmeland called the meeting to order at 1201 p.

Tjelmeland requested a motion to approve the minutes of the November 7, 2017 Jail Committee meeting. Motion was made by Douglas- Williams & seconded by Krell. Motion Carried (7-0).

Reports:

Sheriff Barr had nothing to report.

Superintended Beck reported the jail count was 335. Overtime last week was below the weekly average. The phone system is bringing in 9,000 more a month. The commissary weekly average is 7,000. Beck reminded the committee that the money they make from the phone system & the commissary goes into the inmate benefit fund. The inmates will have a thanksgiving dinner this week. They will have a Christmas ham dinner. We’ve been able to increase the medical to 24/7 because of the money made from the phone system. They are beginning educational programs for the inmates.

Deputy Jim Allmon reported that they are staying busy, although not too much is going on right now.

New Business:

Tim Eggleston:

•MJ Kellner approval $7,796.56 Chairman Tjelmeland asked for a motion to approve MJ Kellner. Preckwinkle made a motion to approve & Sheehan seconded. Motion carried (8-0)

•Request Approval to change Deputy Captain salaries from $106,780 to $108,916 effective December 1,2017. Sheriff explained to the committee that the Captains don’t get overtime and they are losing money by being salaried employees. This is a 2%. DelGiorno made a motion to approve & Sheehan seconded. Motion carried (8-0)

Old Business: none.

Chairman Tjelmeland requested a motion to approve the requisitions for the Sheriff & Coroner. Krell made a motion to approve and Ruzic seconded. Motion carried (8-0).

Douglas-Williams made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Krell. Motion carried (8-0) and the meeting adjourned at 12:09 pm.
