City of Athens City Council met April 10

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The Athens City Council met for a regularly scheduled City Council Meeting Monday April 10th, 2023.

Mayor Reichert called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. All present participated in the pledge of allegiance. The roll call taken indicated that Alderman Chernowsky, Alderman Lantz, Alderman Thompson, Alderman Hoffman, Alderman Puma, and Alderman Tobias were present.

Audience members in attendance included Gary Richardson, Linda Wasilewski, Rex Kieffer and Ginger Newingham.

The following reports were given.

Ginger Newingham gave the library report.

Alderman Lantz gave the Cemetery report.

A motion was made by Alderman Lantz and seconded by Alderman Tobias to approve the Public Works, Police, Treasury Library, Vehicles, and Office Managers’ reports. Motion was roll called all present in favor voted aye. Motion passed.

A motion was made by Alderman Lantz and seconded by Alderman Chernowsky to approve the March 2023 meeting minutes. Motion was roll called all present in favor voted aye. Motion passed.

A motion was made by Alderman Thompson and seconded by Alderman Puma to approve payment of bills. Motion was roll called all present in favor voted aye. Motion passed.

Motion made by Alderman Hoffman and seconded by Alderman Lantz to approve MFT resolution Ordinance 03-2023. Motion was roll called all present in favor voted aye. Motion passed.

Motion made by Alderman Lantz and seconded by Alderman Thompson to donate $1,000 to Glory Days for purchase of wristbands. Motion was roll called all present in favor voted aye. Motion passed.

Motion made by Alderman Thompson second by Alderman Lantz to take a vote on adding an additional liquor license. Motion was roll called all present voted nay. Motion denied.

Motion made by Alderman Chernowsky seconded by Alderman Lantz to approve the annual budget.

Motion was rolled called all present in favor voted aye. Motion passed.

A motion was made by Alderman Lantz and seconded by Alderman Hoffman to accept current quotes from Whitmoore Concrete for $20,780 with stipulation school to pay half the cost for the sidewalk project. Motion was roll called all present in favor voted aye. Motion passed.

Motion made by Alderman Chernowsky seconded by Alderman Lantz to approve the July 2nd Fireworks display at a cost of $9,000 before donations are received. Motion was rolled called all present in favor voted aye. Motion passed.

A motion was made by Alderman Thompson and seconded by Alderman Puma to approve hiring of John Hobblit as the new city attorney. Motion was roll called all present in favor voted aye. Motion passed.

Motion made by Alderman Hoffman and seconded by Alderman Lantz to Accept the new Municipal Library agreement between the City and the Municipal Library, which allows the city to pay bills, payroll, or any other expenses. Motion was roll called all present in favor voted aye. Motion passed.

Old Business

Mayor Reichert gave a report on the building on Main Street, Tim Rathbone was not in attendance.

Motion made by Alderman Lantz to adjourn.

Meeting adjourned at 7:45
