Village of Pawnee Board of Trustees met Sept. 25.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

Call to Order:

• President Clarke called the meeting to order to 7:00pm.

Roll Call: 

• Village Clerk, Devona Martin called roll

• Trustees in attendance: Dale Walters, Phillip Thompson, Patrick Murphy, David Skinner, Brian Whitlow

• Trustees Absent: Troy Grant

• Also in attendance: Treasurer, Brent Wise, Candy Kramer with the Pawnee Post, Chief Barclay Harris, Jeff Schober, Chris and Deb McWorter

Visitor's Recognition/Comments: 

• President Clarke asked for a moment of silence in remembrance of our high school superintendent Tim Kratochvil that passed away unexpectedly over the weekend. President Clarke also provided his funeral service details.

•  Chris and Deb McWorter appeared before the Board regarding the ditch in front of their home. It is now quite deep and overflows. She provided photos and feels it is a safety concern. If someone does get injured, it will be on their property. Jeff Schober will inspect and give his recommendation. She also has concerns with speed coming down 4th Street from Carroll Street. Officer Harris will put the speed trailer there.

Personnel & Finance Committee Report: Committee Chair, Trustee Skinner

• Trustee Skinner presented the bills payable for the week ending September 25, 2023 in the amount of $61,548.66

• Treasurer Brent Wise presented the Monthly Budget Comparison Report for the Month Ending August 31, 2023

Motion made by Trustee Skinner to approve Treasurer Brent Wise's Monthly Budget Comparison Report for the Month Ending August 31, 2023

• Treasurer Wise advised that the suit the Village was a part of regarding the large increase on the transportation cost on gas is coming to an end. We joined with several municipalities and split the cost. This should be finalized in the next 30 days or so and it is looking very favorable for the village.

Gas and Water Committee Report: Committee Chair, Trustee Squires

• Trustee Whitlow advised 60 red letters went out last week.

• Trustee Whitlow advised Petersburg Plumbing is finishing Phase 1. They were going to start the rock and chip on Friday but this may get pushed back as the school has an early dismissal. They have been grading and seeding yards.

• CTI should be completed by October 6th.

Streets, Alley and Sidewalk Committee Report: Committee Chair, Trustee Whitlow 

• none

Police Committee Report: Committee Chair, Trustee Skinner

• Chief Barclay Harris advised the Board that Terry Castleman with Beachdog Productions, a Pawnee High School graduate and a former resident of Pawnee is filming a documentary here in Pawnee. He is a screenplay writer, an actor and a writer.

Sewers and Parks: Committee Chair, Trustee Thompson 

• Trustee Thompson advised the San Terra lift station upgrade is completed.

• Trustee Thompson advised there are 2 ash trees by the soccer fields that are in pretty bad shape. Once soccer season is over, they are going to tear them out and replace them.

• Brent Wise advised that Anna Boarman is putting together a fundraiser. It will be a 5K for JDRF which is for Type 1 Diabetes Awareness. She would like to have it on November 18th starting and ending at North Park. There is no time as of yet. Consensus was to allow.

Zoning Committee Report: Committee Chair, Trustee Murphy 

• No Report

Bargaining Committee: Committee Chair, President Clarke

• No Report

Energy: Committee Chair, President Clarke

• No Report

Infrastructure: Committee Chair, President Clarke

• No Report

Unfinished Business: 

• None

New Business: 

• President Clarke advised the Village would like to sponsor a street sign in honor of Tim Kratochvil. Consensus was "Kratochvil Way." They will order 3 signs so each of the kids can have one. Jeff Schober will see how fast we can get them. They will go on 4th Street in front of the school.
