Springfield, Illinois – The City of Springfield’s Office of Public Works, in cooperation with Republic

Services, is pleased to announce the 2024 Yard Waste program dates. Please keep in mind that all

pickups start on a Monday. The City recommends that if that time is too early for you, you have the yard

waste out the evening before.

Republic Services is the City’s contractor and has divided the community into two pickup zones North

and South. Crews will alternate every other week in each zone, picking up yard waste. To estimate

when your yard waste will be picked up, crews work from west to east in each zone. Those located in

the eastern part of their zone will be picked up in the later part of the week, while those in the west

portion of the zone will be picked up in the beginning half ofthe week.

NORTH SECTION (Green) Areas north of South Grand Avenue and Old Jacksonville Road, including

properties West of Veterans Parkway/ North of Iles Ave.

SOUTH SECTION (Pink) Areas south of South Grand Avenue and Old Jacksonville Road, including

residential areas around the lake.

All yard waste must be placed in paper yard waste/leaf bags or hard, rigid plastic containers.

Containers must be clearly marked with the words Yard Waste or YW, which cannot be more than 30

gallons and can weigh no more than 50 lbs. Yard waste must be placed curbside. Alley pick-up

will not occur for yard waste.

WHAT IS YARD WASTE?

Yard waste comprises grass clippings, leaves, weeds, plant trimmings, and/or small twigs and branches.

No plastic bags can be used, and yard waste must be free of contamination, including food, rocks, dirt,

large branches, flower pots/trays, animal droppings, and street waste. Residents are responsible for

keeping their yard waste-free of contaminants. If contaminants are found, yard waste will not be

collected.

As a reminder, areas outside the City of Springfield corporate limits still require yard waste stickers

for their residential pickup.

WHAT IF MY YARD WASTE WAS NOT PICKED UP?

If you feel your house or neighborhood was missed during your pick-up week or have questions about

the pickup schedule, please email SpringfieldYW@republicservices.com
