Coy Dettmer was named Midwest Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week, according to a March 9 announcement from the league. Dettmer, a junior from Silvis, Illinois and transfer from Spoon River Community College, received his first weekly honor since joining Illinois College.
The recognition comes after Dettmer made two appearances on the mound during the Blueboys’ spring trip. He recorded one win and one save over seven innings, allowing only three hits and one run while striking out twelve batters. This performance averaged more than 1.7 strikeouts per inning.
Dettmer secured a win against Dubuque by pitching 4.1 scoreless innings in relief, giving up just one hit and striking out five batters. He then earned a save in a victory over Saint Mary’s (Minnesota), striking out seven over the final 2.2 innings to secure the result.
Illinois College Blue Boys Baseball participates in NCAA Division III competitions, according to the official website. The team competes under the Midwest Conference and plays its home games at Joe Brooks Baseball Field as part of Illinois College’s athletics program. The program provides competitive baseball opportunities for students within college athletics.
Following their spring break trip to Florida, the Blueboys are scheduled to play Principia tonight at 5:30 p.m. in St. Louis after moving up their originally scheduled game due to weather forecasts.
