FOIA Request to Illinois Department of Revenue Regarding State Agency Contracts with Vendors on March 24, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in government, we at Sangamon Sun have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Illinois Department of Revenue. Our request seeks comprehensive documentation and details concerning the fulfillment of contractual obligations for all contracts executed or modified between this state agency and their vendors during January of the 2023 fiscal year.
Specifically, we are requesting records that verify the scope of work performed, deliverables completed, and any reports or evaluations related to these contracts. Access to such public records is crucial for us as members of the media. It enables us to fulfill our professional responsibilities by holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
In line with our mission, we have requested this information in electronic format and have applied for a fee waiver due to our role in disseminating information as media professionals. Additionally, we are supported by The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting news media companies and public advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.
We believe that this request will help illuminate government actions and inform the American electorate more effectively. We look forward to receiving the requested information from the Illinois Department of Revenue.
