FOIA Request to Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board Regarding State Agency Contracts with Vendors on March 24, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board. Our request seeks documentation and details regarding the fulfillment of contractual obligations for all contracts executed or modified between this state agency and their vendors during January of the 2023 fiscal year. Specifically, we are interested in records that verify the scope of work performed, deliverables completed, and any reports or evaluations related to these contracts.

This request is made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, with a preference for receiving the information in electronic format. As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

Additionally, it is important to note that we are affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Missouri Corporation. This organization assists news media companies, publications, and public advocacy groups in investigating state and federal governmental agencies by leveraging Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. Our goal is to pull back the curtain on government actions and help inform the American electorate.

We look forward to receiving the requested information and continuing our efforts to provide transparent and accountable news coverage.
