The Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair (GSDSEF) announced on April 26 that its students earned 40 awards at the 75th California Science and Engineering Fair, which was held April 11–12 at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. The event brought together around 900 first-place winners from regional competitions across the state.

The fair is considered the highest-level science competition in California, drawing participants from 58 counties. Seven GSDSEF students received first place awards in categories such as Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Cognitive Science, Microbiology, Physics and Astronomy, and Zoology. Two students were selected as finalists for the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair.

Other notable achievements included a student winning the Saban Family Foundation Scholar Prize, while another received both the South Coast AQMD Air Quality Award and A&WMA Environmental Leadership Award. Full results are available online through GSDSEF’s project showcase.

Since its founding in 1955, GSDSEF has provided opportunities for San Diego and Imperial County students to pursue science research beyond classroom studies. The organization reports bringing together about 800 middle and high school participants each year with over $40,000 awarded in prizes. Students’ projects have ranged from disease cures to advances in artificial intelligence for medical diagnostics.
