Hancock County Highway, Road, and Bridge Committee met Jan. 29

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

The meeting was called to order by Dennis Castlebury at 8:30 a.m. Members in attendance include Alex Blythe, Mark Hanson, Tom Rodgers, and Mark Harrison. Mark Menn, Wayne Bollin, and Ryan Weeks were absent. Elgin Berry, Ryan Ramsey, and Nicole Broch were visitors.

Mr. Ramsey and Ms. Broch were in attendance to discuss the accident where a county truck got rearended by a vehicle. Country Company sent release paperwork to be signed. They will replace the salt spreader with a 2026 model. Mr. Ramsey stated the cons of signing this would be that you will receive no other money from Country Company. Pro is that they are offering a new spreader.

He stated to let Country Company know that it is going to be inspected by Freightliner. It was decided to have the repairs done to make sure all expenses are paid.

Mr. Berry has a mapping software for culverts, etc. ESRI is changing the software. They would like to have a mobile device that has dual GPS receivers to be used in the field for updating. This would also increase the ability to perform data entry for construction projects and update the mapping data in the field. He will get on a plan with ESDA. ESDA currently pays $150/month for rent. Mr. Berry is thinking to go up to $200/month for the rent and phone and highway will pay the phone bill.

Motion to approve the resolution to apply oil and chips on the Bentley Road, 11 miles, with county Day Labor Forces and Resolution to apply microsurfacing on the Ferris road, 9 miles, was made by Mr. Harrison and seconded by Mr. Blythe. There will be no local share used for these 2 projects. All members present voted aye.

Eleven townships petitioned for county aid for replacing culverts. The county will pay for the materials and the townships will pay to get the culverts in. Estimated total is $183,510.

There were a couple of staffing changes.

The claims were gone over. Motion to pay bills was made by Mr. Rodgers. Mr. Harrison seconded. A roll call vote was taken with all members present voting “yes”. Motion carried.

Motion to recess until February 26 at 8:30 was made by Mr. Blythe, seconded by Mr. Hanson. All members present voted aye. Meeting adjourned at 9:43 a.m.
