Each summer, the Office of the House Republican Leader runs an internship program for high school and college students. The program offers educational activities designed to introduce interns to different career paths in the General Assembly and government service.

Interns are assigned either to a State Representative’s District Office or a division within the House Republican Caucus. They also take part in weekly sessions led by experts from the House Republican staff.

This year, interns explored policy issues such as how the Research and Appropriations department focuses on specific policy areas, how legislation is created, and what roles the House Clerk and House Rules have in legislative procedures. Interns applied this knowledge by drafting House Resolutions, analyzing House Rules, and suggesting changes to those rules.

The program also included hands-on experience with public relations. Interns worked with digital media, developed outreach programs for constituents, drafted press releases, created social media content, and assisted in finding venues for events.

Some of the projects produced by interns were used by staff members of the House Republican Caucus.

Anyone interested in applying for future internships can find more information at HRSCareers.com about participating in next year’s HGOP Summer Internship Program.

Keicher was elected as a Republican to represent Illinois’ 70th House District in 2018 after Robert W. Pritchard stepped down. More details can be found at https://ballotpedia.org/Jeff_Keicher.
