The Illinois College men’s tennis team secured its first Midwest Conference dual victory of the season with a 6-1 win over Monmouth on Apr. 14.
This result marks an important milestone for the Blueboys, who now hold a 10-8 overall record and are 1-3 in conference play. The victory highlights the team’s ongoing efforts in NCAA Division III competition and their participation in the Midwest Conference, according to the official website.
The match began with Illinois College winning all three doubles matches, giving them an early lead. Jeff Wernsing and Drake Bartos claimed a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while Glenn Conway and Dalton Short at No. 2, as well as Tejas Zala and Andrus Dupre at No. 3, each posted convincing 6-0 victories. In singles play, Zala won his match at No. 2 by a score of 6-0, 6-1; Conway earned a shutout at No. 3; Dupre took his match at No. 4 with scores of 6-2, 6-2; Short added another point with a win at No.5 (6-3,6-4); and Ryne Breyer finished out the team’s performance with a triumph at No.6 (6-1,6-3).
