Illinois College softball secured a sweep over Ripon in a Midwest Conference doubleheader on Apr. 4 at Jessica Kamp Softball Field in Jacksonville, Illinois.
The wins are significant as they keep the Lady Blues undefeated in conference play and improve their overall record to 17-9. The games were held at Jessica Kamp Softball Field, which features a resurfaced infield designed to minimize weather-related issues, according to the official website.
In the first game, Illinois College edged out Ripon with a 1-0 victory. The match was marked by strong pitching performances from both teams until Raegan Rezba was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning. Maddie Adams then hit a triple that brought Rezba home for the walk-off win. Jordan Closs pitched a three-hit shutout with two strikeouts for her eighth win of the season.
The second game saw Illinois College score runs in both the first and sixth innings on similar plays: Gabby Miller stole third base and scored each time following throwing errors by Ripon. Cambria Currie pitched another shutout for Illinois College, allowing only two hits while striking out five batters.
Illinois College Lady Blues Softball competes as part of NCAA Division III and is a member of the Midwest Conference, according to the official website. The team hosts its games at Jessica Kamp Softball Field, which has been upgraded with an improved drainage system on its infield as reported by the official website.
Looking ahead, Illinois College will travel for its next Midwest Conference doubleheader against Beloit on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
