Illinois College’s Rocket League team secured a 4–0 sweep against the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point in National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC) play on February 25 in Jacksonville, Illinois.
The match began with Illinois College winning Game 1 by a score of 3–2. The team followed up with a 3–1 victory in Game 2. In Game 3, Illinois College edged out their opponent with a close 4–3 win before finishing the series with an 8–2 result in Game 4.
Lucas Barry led the team, scoring ten goals and making four assists on twenty-four shots. This performance tied his own program record for goals previously set against Bradley University. Loegon Pete contributed seven assists and seven saves, matching the program’s assist record originally set against Coe College. Dwight Duijneveld added eight goals, four assists, and six saves during the match.
Illinois College Blue Boys and Lady Blues Esports compete under Illinois College athletics using the Blueboys nickname for men’s teams. The esports program operates out of Jacksonville, Illinois and is part of intercollegiate competitions such as those organized by the NECC. The team has earned recognition for advancing to Grand Finals in Rocket League and has also secured championships in other games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate within Division III Midwest competition according to their official website.
The Rocket League team will next face Southern Illinois University on Wednesday, March 11 at 7:00 p.m. as NECC action continues.
