There have been 310,700 confirmed coronavirus cases in Illinois as of October 8, with 8,910 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (83,070 cases) and Cook County (68,400 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago’s death toll from the virus stands at 2,983, while Cook County recorded 2,296 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 6,105,780, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 62,266 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 146,194 were male and 159,378 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,786, while female deaths stood at 4,124.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 4,320 Asians, 4,320 whites, 2,248 African-Americans, 1,769 Hispanics, and 187 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
