Illinois College’s Jordan Closs was named the Midwest Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week on Apr. 6, according to a league announcement.

Closs, a senior from Niantic, Illinois, played a key role in helping Illinois College open its Midwest Conference season with a 4-0 record over the weekend. In her two starts, she pitched 12 innings without allowing any runs and gave up only three hits while striking out five batters. Opponents managed just a .088 batting average against her during these games. On Friday against Lawrence, Closs threw a five-inning no-hitter with three strikeouts. She followed this performance on Saturday with another win over Ripon, pitching a three-hit shutout and recording two strikeouts.

This marks the sixth time that Closs has received the conference’s weekly honor during her career at Illinois College.

The Lady Blues currently hold an overall record of 17-9 and are undefeated in conference play at 4-0. Their next games are scheduled as an away doubleheader at Beloit on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Illinois College Lady Blues Softball competes in NCAA Division III softball according to the official website. The team belongs to the Midwest Conference and operates from Jacksonville, Illinois as noted by their official site. Home games are held at Jessica Kamp Softball Field, which features a resurfaced infield designed to improve drainage and minimize weather-related issues according to information provided by Illinois College.

The recognition for Closs comes as part of an ongoing successful season for both her individually and for the Lady Blues team.
