There have been 2,873 confirmed coronavirus cases in Menard County as of Jan. 14, with 17 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (498,980 cases) and Cook County (487,878 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago’s death toll from the virus stands at 6,528, while Cook County recorded 5,975 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 47,949,094, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was under 20, with 551,346 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 1,205,001 were male and 1,345,039 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 15,850, while female deaths stood at 13,249.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 18,160 whites, 5,298 African-Americans, 4,227 Hispanics, 930 Asians, and 484 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
