Midea Building Technologies (MBT) introduced three new innovations at the MCE 2026 trade fair in Milan on March 30, focusing on environmentally friendly refrigerants and energy-saving technologies.

The company presented its V9 VRF system, a portfolio of R290 heat pumps, and data center cooling solutions. These developments are designed to address the evolving needs of green transformation across Europe. The V9 VRF system uses an electric distribution box called ShieldBox II and eco-friendly R32 refrigerant. The ShieldBox II features a die-cast aluminum enclosure that reduces volume by 70 percent, allowing for a larger heat exchanger and improved efficiency. It also integrates IP68 protection with a three-zone design and maintains coolant temperature at a stable 30°C to extend component life in extreme environments. MBT said the unit passed TÜV’s first three-stage safety assessment for VRF systems using flammable refrigerants, achieving international safety certification.

MBT also unveiled its range of R290 heat pumps with capacities from 4 kW to 70 kW for residential, commercial, and industrial use. The Mars Large R290 ATW commercial heat pump received the MCE Excellence Award and can reach water outlet temperatures up to 85°C thanks to the natural R290 refrigerant. With an all-DC inverter and dual backup compressor, it is rated A+++ for energy efficiency and maintains full heating output at -10°C.

For data centers, MBT showcased liquid-cooled equipment via an interactive display featuring CDU units, fan walls, and centrifugal chillers with magnetic bearings that achieve an annual PUE value as low as 1.2. Key products include the AirBoost Vera air-cooled centrifugal chiller—featuring dual power switching—and a CDU unit built with multiple redundancies for long-term reliability.

MBT stated its commitment to shaping “a smarter low-carbon future” for the HVAC industry through ongoing innovation and sustainability efforts.
