Illinois State Representative Mike Coffey announced on Mar. 16 the filing of House Bill 4232, which would limit most vehicle registration fees to $100 for veterans in Illinois.
The proposed legislation aims to provide financial relief to veterans as a gesture of appreciation for their service. Coffey said this measure is intended as “just one small way we can say THANK YOU to the men and women who served our country.”
Coffey highlighted the ongoing contributions of veterans, noting their involvement in volunteering and community service programs that often go unrecognized. “Our veterans continue to give back to our communities in meaningful ways such as volunteering and community service. They participate in programs and organizations many of us don’t hear about and they deserve to be recognized, even in small ways,” Coffey said.
Coffey was elected as a Republican representative for Illinois’ 95th House District in 2023, succeeding Tim Butler, according to public records.
In addition to introducing the bill, Coffey invited veterans to share their thoughts with him and join his Veterans’ Advisory Council by filling out a form available through his office. He also directed veterans seeking resources to visit repcoffey.com/resources-for-veterans/.
Coffey concluded his announcement by expressing gratitude: “On behalf of the people of the 95th District and the State of Illinois, thank you for your service to our country. Our community is grateful for your sacrifice in defense of our freedoms.”
