Illinois College lost to Millikin University by a score of 9-2 in a non-conference baseball game on March 22 at Joe Brooks Field.
The result moves the Blueboys to an even record of 9-9 for the season, while Millikin improves to 15-4. The matchup is part of Illinois College’s intercollegiate baseball program, which offers competitive opportunities for students and operates within college athletics, according to the official website.
Millikin took an early lead with a run-scoring single in the first inning and added two more runs in the second on a home run. The Big Blue extended their advantage with a two-run triple in the fourth inning, making it 5-0. Illinois College responded in their half of the fourth when Nicholas Muskopf reached base on an error and was brought home by Ketch Mills’ RBI fielder’s choice.
Millikin widened its lead further with four runs in the fifth inning, including a two-run double and a sacrifice fly. In the eighth inning, Nathan Walker singled and later scored on Nolan Decker’s RBI single up the middle for Illinois College’s final run. Walker, Tyler Barker, and Ethan Klunk each had two hits for Illinois College; Decker also drove in one run.
Parker Phillis started as pitcher for Illinois College and struck out six batters over four-and-one-third innings. Relief pitchers Aidan Lougeay, Xavier Koch, and Michael Larson finished out the game; Koch pitched three-and-one-third scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
