MJM Electric Cooperative visited the State Capitol on April 14 to advocate for rural electric policies. The cooperative, which is based in Carlinville, Illinois, supplies electricity to more than 9,500 meters and maintains over 2,122 miles of power lines across Macoupin, Jersey, Montgomery, Bond, Fayette, Greene, and Madison counties.
The visit aimed to highlight the importance of supporting rural electric infrastructure and ensuring reliable service for communities in these areas. MJM operates as a not-for-profit organization serving several counties in central Illinois.
Illinois State Representative Wayne Arthur Rosenthal thanked those who facilitated the meeting. “Thank you to my legislative staff, Rachel Schmock, and my colleague Rep. Mike Coffey, for meeting with this delegation at my Springfield office,” said Rosenthal.
Rosenthal was elected as a Republican representative for Illinois’s 108th House District in 2023 after replacing former state representative Charles Meier according to available records.
Cooperatives like MJM play a significant role in delivering essential services to rural regions that may otherwise face challenges accessing reliable electricity. The ongoing dialogue between cooperatives and lawmakers can impact future policy decisions affecting these communities.
