Illinois State Representative Charlie Meier announced on April 21 that several of his bills have advanced through the House as the spring legislative session approaches its final month. Meier said he will provide more information about additional initiatives in the coming weeks.
The update also recognized achievements by local students, including a visit from the Breese Central Cougar Women Basketball Team and Cheerleading Team to celebrate their recent state championships. The Breese Central High School Cougars won the 2026 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class 2A Girls Basketball State Championship, defeating Byron with a score of 44-28 on March 7 to secure their second state title. The school’s cheerleading team also earned the 2026 IHSA Competitive Cheerleading State Championship in Class 1A. To honor these accomplishments, Meier filed House Resolutions 737 and 750.
Meier addressed Second Amendment rights, saying, “The Second Amendment is not up for grabs. It was great seeing so many advocates in full force to show the radical Democrats that our rights shall not be infringed!” He noted that Illinois Gun Owner Lobby Day (IGOLD), primarily sponsored by the Illinois State Rifle Association, has become a leading demonstration for gun owners’ rights nationwide.
The representative reported teaming up with disability advocates for a press conference in Springfield focused on reform bills targeting issues within the Illinois Department of Human Services. He also shared his appreciation for Agriculture Legislative Day at the Capitol and acknowledged organizations such as FFA and 4-H for their influence on his career path.
According to Ballotpedia, Meier, a Republican, was elected to represent Illinois’s 109th House District in 2023 after replacing former representative David Reis (source).
Meier concluded by inviting constituents with questions or concerns regarding state agencies to contact his office for assistance.
