State Representative Martin McLaughlin welcomed homeschool students and their families to the Illinois State Capitol for their annual Homeschool Lobby Day on March 27. The event brought together lawmakers and constituents to discuss educational options in the state.

The gathering highlighted ongoing debates about school choice and parental rights in education, which remain important issues for many Illinois families.

McLaughlin said, “One of my favorite days in Springfield is when our homeschool parents and families visit. The fundamental right to educate your children is paramount to freedom. Having a choice in how—and where—we educate our kids is something I will always stand up for.” He has consistently supported efforts that ensure all students have access to education that fits their individual needs.

During the event, McLaughlin questioned why Governor J.B. Pritzker has not utilized a $300 million school choice program available for qualified families across Illinois. “While we’re at it, why isn’t J.B. Pritzker utilizing the $300 million school choice program available to qualified families across Illinois?” he said.

McLaughlin was elected as a Republican representative for the state’s 52nd House District in 2021, succeeding David McSweeney according to Ballotpedia.

He encouraged fellow lawmakers to support policies that give parents more flexibility in choosing educational paths for their children.
