Illinois State Representative Mike Coffey said on March 27 that lawmakers concluded a busy week at the Capitol, advancing bills through committee and meeting with various visitors. Coffey reported that the legislative session will resume on April 7, when bills are expected to move forward in the House for second and third readings.
The update comes as legislators work to address concerns about the high cost of living in Illinois. “500 bills have passed through committee, now it’s time to deliver tax relief to families who are burdened by the high cost of living in Illinois,” Coffey said.
Coffey also thanked several groups for visiting his office during the week, including Chatham Fire Chiefs, members of the Illinois License Beverage Association, and representatives from the Illinois Gaming Machine Operators Association. He noted meetings with Springfield School Board Members as well.
Coffey is a Republican who was elected to represent Illinois’ 95th House District in 2023, taking over from former state representative Tim Butler according to Ballotpedia.
As lawmakers prepare for further action when session resumes in April, discussions around tax relief and legislative priorities remain central topics.
