Sangamon County working to become a Certified Work Ready Community
Sangamon County, Illinois is working to become a Certified Work Ready Community (CWRC), the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce announced this week.
Through this program workers from selected counties may take the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) test and subsequently receive a score that can help in obtaining employment.
Certain employers take the certification into consideration when considering candidates for a job. ACT developed the test in a similar fashion as its college entrance exam.
The NCRC determines readiness in the workforce similar to how the ACT determines readiness for college courses. The test focuses on applied mathematics reasoning, problem solving and critical thinking scenarios.
The NCRC tests will grant those that take it a certificate with different levels including bronze, silver, gold and platinum.
According to the chamber, this designation will allow the county to grow its business climate as the program offers means to improve economic, education and business development.
Through the tests, the workforce of the county will be able to establish its quality and is expected to be able to attract and retain businesses to operate within the county.
