Wolfer wins over Pierce in GOP primary

House District 96 candidate Cindy Wolfer

Cindy Wolfer defeated Gary Pierce in the March 15 Illinois House Republican primary for District 96. Of a total of 8,964 votes, Wolfe received 5,385 votes, earning her 60 percent of votes in Christian, Macon and Sangamon Counties. Wolfer saw her highest number of votes in Macon County. Pierce received a total of 3,579 votes.

In the Presidential Republican primary, Donald Trump emerged ahead of the pack among Morgan County voters, claiming 37.96 percent of the votes. On the Democratic side, 41.08 percent of Morgan County voters supported Hillary Clinton, while 57.26 percent voted for  Bernie Sanders.

In the Senate Republican race, James Marter lost to Mark Kirk among Morgan County voters. On the Democratic side, Sen. Tammy Duckworth  took the lead with 1,352 votes over Andrea Zopp, who received 474 votes, and Napoleon Harris who received 175 votes.
