At a recent meeting, the Springfield Mass Transit District Board discussed the upgrades underway in the city's outdated gas-detection system, which can no longer be properly maintained or repaired.

The board also approved a proposal to create a social-media policy for board members.

The board also received an update on the city's recycling efforts and discussed plans for Curb Your Car Challenge Week, which runs through the May 21. Residents this week are encouraged to carpool and otherwise find ways to reduce the number of automobiles on the road.
