VIII PRINCIPALS’ REPORTS:

8.01 Grade & Jr. High School Principal - Dr. Nelson

1. We now use Fastbridge as our special education progress monitoring program. Our RTI team also now uses Fastbridge and some of our regular education teachers have used it as a screening tool. We plan to extend its assessment uses next year.

2. During our last week of school, each grade learned about a different country. The purpose of the change of curricula was to stimulate continued learning during our last few days and to appreciate cultural diversity. Kindergarten learned about Spain. Mrs. Wirth ‘s son Cody is fluent in Spanish, has just spent 6 months living in Barcelona, and spent a day with our students teaching them Spanish phrases. First Grade visited Germany, Second Grade studied China and Third Grade learned about Canada. As we have a student in Fourth Grade whose family is from Albania, the fourth graders studied this country and the student’s father came to school and presented information to the classes. Fifth Grade studied England as Mr. Tobin completed his student teaching in southern England. They also learned how to play cricket. In recognition of the two Yee brothers from Guatemala and students with Hispanic heritage, junior high studied Mexico and Guatemala.

3. We are mostly packed in the office and ready for the work to begin.
