Village of Lagrange Board of Fire and Police Commissioners met June 25.

CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL

A meeting of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners (BOFPC) of the Village of La Grange was held on June 25, 2019 in the lower level conference room of the Village Hall and was called to order at 6:05 p.m.

PRESENT: (and constituting a quorum): Chairman Hoffenberg, Commissioner Boersma and Commissioner Levato.

ABSENT: None

ALSO PRESENT: Andrianna Peterson, Village Manager, Kevin Noreikis, Intern, Terrence Vavra, Fire Chief, and Kurt Bluder, Police Chief

A. Introduction and Orientation of New Commissioner – Village Manager Peterson reported that Commissioner Paul Kerpan has moved to the Zoning Board of Appeals, and Zoning Board of Appeals member Tom Levato has moved to the BOFPC. The group welcomed Mr. Levato on his appointment.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES- MAY 15, 2019

The minutes of the May 15, 2019 meeting were presented for approval. After consideration, it was moved by Chairman Hoffenberg and seconded by Commissioner Levato that the minutes be approved. Motion carried.

BUSINESS AT HAND

A. Amendment – Police Officer Final Eligibility Register – Chief Bluder provided an update to the Commission regarding eleven candidates on the eligibility register (Niemiec, Sparks, Lazic, Dimas, Loya, Kemetas, Constantino, Kapka, Ro, Litrenta and Rucker) who have either declined additional consideration in the hiring process for Police Officer, or have been determined to be ineligible to continue in the hiring process. A motion was made by Commissioner Boersma and seconded by Commissioner Levato to strike the eleven individuals from the Police Officer Final Eligibility Register. Motion carried.

Call for Examinations – Village Manager Peterson reported that the current Firefighter / Paramedic Eligibility Register will expire on August 25, 2019. In anticipation of that date, she recommends that the BOPFC initiate a new eligibility list process. As we have used the services of I/O Solutions in the past with good results, she recommends that we contract for the same services again.

Saturday, August 17th has been reserved for the proctoring of the written exam. Staff is recommending that the minimum passing score be determined as 70% which is the same percentage score that was considered passing during the last examination process.

After consideration, it was moved by Commissioner Boersma and seconded by Commissioner Levato that the Fire Department initiate the Call for Examination process with I/O Solutions and that the minimum score for the written exam be 70%. Motion carried.

OLD BUSINESS 

None.

NEW BUSINESS

A. Introduction of new Fire Chief- Terrence Vavra- Village Manager Peterson introduced Terrence Vavra as the new Fire Chief. Vavra has over 40 years of Fire Service, most recently with the Norwood Park Fire Protection District. The Commission welcomed Chief Vavra to La Grange.

B. Special Meeting- After discussion, it was determined that a special meeting will be held Monday, July 8th at 4:00 p.m. The purpose of this meeting will be to hold oral interviews for the position of Police Officer.

ADJOURNMENT

Since there was no further business before the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners, it was moved by Commissioner Boersma and seconded by Commissioner Levato that the meeting was adjourned at 7:23 p.m.
