Illinois College hires Tayvonne Landry as assistant track & field coach

Tayvonne Landry has been appointed as an assistant track and field coach for the Illinois College men's and women's programs. The announcement was made by Head Coach Dirk Doehring.

Landry's coaching experience includes positions at Kentucky Christian University, Indiana University - East, and Kansas Northwest Technical College. He has also served as head track and field coach at Edwardsville High School and worked as an assistant at Carbondale High School.

During his time at Edwardsville, Landry was named the 2023 Alton Telegraph Track Coach of the Year. His coaching career features work with NJCAA cross country half-marathon runners-up, an NJCAA cross country national champion, three under-20 qualifiers, five USATF individual national champions, 24 IHSA all-state performers, more than 60 IHSA state qualifiers, over 30 USATF national qualifiers, and two IHSA state champions.

"We are extremely excited to welcome Tayvonne to IC," Doehring said. "His previous experiences at the college and high school levels as both a head coach and assistant, as well as his background working with multiple different event areas, will be invaluable in helping to continue to build upon the success of the programs. His connections that he will bring with him from all over Southern Illinois will surely pay off on the recruiting trail as well."

Landry is originally from Chicago and holds a USATF Level 1 Coaching Certification. As a student-athlete at Southern Illinois University, he was part of the 2015 Missouri Valley Conference team champions. He graduated from SIU in 2019.
