The Illinois College football team secured a 14-7 victory over Grinnell College on Saturday during Senior Day at England Stadium in Jacksonville, Illinois.
With this win, the Blueboys improved their season record to 6-2 overall and 5-2 in Midwest Conference play. Grinnell fell to 1-7 overall and 1-6 in the league.
Illinois College began the game with a scoring drive capped by a one-yard touchdown run from Tyson Elliott. Early in the second quarter, Elliott connected with Kyle Leonard for a 29-yard touchdown pass. Kicker Toby McTamney converted both extra points, giving the Blueboys a 14-0 lead at halftime.
Grinnell managed to score midway through the third quarter, narrowing the margin to 14-7. However, no further points were added by either team for the remainder of the game.
The Blueboys outgained Grinnell, recording 274 yards compared to the Pioneers’ 196 yards.
Quarterback Tyson Elliott completed 15 of his 19 passes for 176 yards and one touchdown. Kyle Leonard led all receivers with four catches for 69 yards and one score. Cole Stuart contributed three receptions for 38 yards, while Lleyton Miller had three catches totaling 18 yards. On the ground, Miller rushed for 46 yards on twelve carries and Tanner Spencer added another 33 yards on ten attempts.
On defense, Cam Dailey led Illinois College with eleven tackles. Jaylen Johnson, Malik Byndom, Landon Grapperhaus, and Daniel Guzevich each recorded an interception; Johnson also made seven tackles.
Prior to kickoff, Illinois College honored seventeen seniors making their final appearance at England Stadium. The team has now won its last eleven home games at England Stadium and has taken twenty-one of its past twenty-five regular-season contests as well as twenty-six of its last thirty-two games overall.
Illinois College will play its final two regular-season games on the road beginning next Saturday against Cornell in Mt. Vernon, Iowa.
