Downing sets top-five program mark as Lady Blues finish eighth at conference championship

Bailey Downing led the Illinois College women's cross country team at the Midwest Conference Championships held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Saturday. The team finished eighth overall in the event at Seminole Valley Park.

Downing, a freshman from Harrisburg, Illinois, recorded a time of 24:13.4 in the 6K race. This performance is now ranked as the fourth-fastest 6K time in program history and placed her 42nd among all competitors.

Caroline Peters also delivered a notable result for Illinois College with a time of 25:07.4, which ranks eighth on the school's all-time list for the distance. She finished 53rd overall.

Other finishers for Illinois College included Kairy Mercado-Ramos, who ran 25:44.1 to place 57th and achieve the eleventh-best time in school history; Ashley Watson, who was 61st with a time of 26:01.2; Claire Peters, who took 69th place with a mark of 26:38.07; Morgan Carrino, finishing 71st at 26:45.6; and Emily Arens, who came in at 79th with a time of 27:40.

The Lady Blues will compete next at the NCAA Regional meet scheduled for November 15 in Waverly, Iowa. The race is set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
