Illinois College’s Esports Super Smash Bros. team secured a 2–0 win over Northwestern College in the NECC playoffs on Tuesday night in Jacksonville, Illinois.

The Blueboys began the match with a 4–0 sweep in Game 1 and maintained their momentum with a 2–0 victory in Game 2 to clinch the series.

Jake Petrovich led his team by taking 13 stocks and losing six, achieving a kill-to-fall (K/F) ratio of 2.2. He was instrumental in securing both game wins, finishing each time with one stock remaining. Other notable performances included Julian Luaders, who posted a K/F ratio of 2.0 by taking two stocks and losing one; Devin Ussery, who took two stocks and lost three; Adam Byrd, who broke even at six stocks taken and six lost; and Alex Rhoades, who finished with one stock taken and two lost.

With this result, Illinois College advances to face Wayne State College, the top seed, next Tuesday at 7:00 PM. This will be a rematch from the Kato Invitational qualifier stages earlier in the season where Wayne State previously won.

"We’re excited for another chance against Wayne State," said head coach David Seering. "Our players have worked hard all season to reach this point."
