Auburn Community Unit School District 10 Board met May 1.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

The following members answered roll call at the special meeting of the Auburn Board of Education May 1, 2018. Present: Fred Jessup, Matt Kern, John Megginson, and Scott Norris. Absent: Chuck DuBois, Josh Smith. Also present were Darren Root, Mark Dudley, “Student A” and parent.

Norris moved to adopt the agenda. Megginson seconded the motion. The voting was as follows:

DuBois absent Megginson yea

Jessup yea Kern yea

Norris yea Smith absent

There being 4 “yeas”, 0 “nays”, the president declared the motion carried.

Megginson moved to accept the resignation of school board member, Mike Heren. Norris seconded the motion. The voting was as follows:

DuBois absent Megginson yea

Jessup yea Kern yea

Norris yea Smith absent

There being 4 “yeas”, 0 “nays”, the president declared the motion carried.

Norris moved to go into Closed Session at 7:03 pm. Kern seconded the motion. The voting was as follows:

DuBois absent Megginson yea

Jessup yea Kern yea

Norris yea Smith absent

There being 4 “yeas”, 0 “nays”, the president declared the motion carried.

Board came out of Closed Session at 7:20 pm.

Norris moved to expel “Student A” for remainder of 2017/18 and all of the 2019 school year.

Megginson seconded the motion. The voting was as follows:

Jessup yea Kern yea

Norris yea Smith absent

There being 4 “yeas”, 0 “nays”, the president declared the motion carried.

Norris moved to place an abeyance on the first motion with the following conditions, and if these conditions are met, “Student A” would be allowed to return to school for the 2018/19 school year:

1. “Student A” must show evidence of drug counseling from an approved organization.

2. “Student A” will complete all schoolwork sent to him through May 24, 2018.

3. A disciplinary suspension of any kind for one (1) calendar year negates the expulsion abeyance.

Kern seconded the motion. The voting was as follows:

Megginson moved to adjourn at 7:24 pm. Norris seconded the motion. The voting was as follows:
