Springfield Police Department issued the following announcement on July 20.
On July 20, 2018, at approximately 3:31 a.m., Springfield Police Officers responded
to a report of a traffic crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian at the intersection of Walnut and Canedy
Street. Upon arrival, Springfield Police located a woman who was down in the middle of the roadway on
Canedy Street. Officers confirmed the woman, age 52, had been struck by a vehicle that was no longer
at the scene. The woman was transported by ambulance to Memorial Medical Center for treatment.
She later succumbed to her injuries as a result of the crash and her identity will be released by the
Sangamon County Coroner’s office after an autopsy is complete.
The investigation is ongoing and updates will be provided as information becomes available.
