Springfield Police Department issued the following announcement on Aug. 16.
On August 14, 2018 at approximately 11:08 PM, the Springfield Police Department
responded to 11th / North Grand Avenue for a report of a hit and run crash involving a pedestrian who
was struck by a white colored vehicle. The suspect vehicle fled the scene northbound on 11th Street
and the victim was taken to HSHS Saint John’s Hospital with life threatening injuries. A traffic crash
reconstruction of the scene was completed.
SPD Detectives worked diligently and quickly to identify the suspect, Lonntrez Courtney, age 23, of the
1800 block of east South Street. Courtney was located earlier today and after speaking with Detectives,
Courtney was arrested and transported to the Sangamon County Jail. He is charged with leaving the
scene of an accident with a death or injury (class 4 felony) and leaving the scene of an accident failure to
report death or injury (class 4 felony).
