City of Peru Recreation Board met Oct. 9.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

Board Chairman Ray Zborowski called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm.

Attendance: Board Chairman-Ray Zborowski, Board Members-Bill Steve, Steve Michelini, Linda Dzierzynski, John Fusinatto, Gena Wallin, and recreation director Seth Brannan.

Absent: Simon Kampwerth I- Guest

Rugby- Fran Baker

Fran B presented an Illinois Valley Rugby program that will begin practicing this fall. The main season will run from the beginning of April through the end of June. He discussed how the IV program would focus on a 5/6 grade coed team for this year with plans of expanding into 7/8 for next year. However, there are opportunities for 7/8 graders to play on a suburb team this year. Discussion was had as to the different location of being able to practice and it was decided that Baker Lake seems to be the best option. Options were also discussed about using a facility with lights for their fall practices. This fall

area schools as well as plans for a sign up day for fall practices.

II- Previous Minutes

IV rugby will be practicing at Baker Lake from 10am

until noon, on Saturday and Sunday, until weather restricts them.

A motion to approve the minutes of the September 11, 2018 meeting was made by Linda D and seconded by Gena W. The motion passed with all in favor.

III- Revenue and Expense Report

Bill S reported on the revenue and expense reports dated September 30, 2018. A motion to approve the report was made by Bill S and seconded by John F. The motion passed with all in favor.

IV- New Business

Communications:

Ray Z reported that Jolene from the dog park expressed that they were happy with the concrete that was poured at the entrances to the dog park.

Ray Z reported that the city has requested the event dates for next year in order to put them on the city calendar. Discussion was had, and it was determined to keep the events on the corresponding dates. Seth B will send the dates over to the city.

Halloween Parade:

An overview of activities planned at Washington park, free concessions, as well as the parade route were discussed. Seth B will make a sign to place at the entrance to Washington Park to direct people to the different activities. Seth B will also prepare the float, candy to be passed out, and the treat bags to be given at Washington Park. Gena W, Bill S, and Linda D will help with concessions. There will also be 2 ads ran in the News Tribune to promote the Halloween Parade.

Christmas Parade:

Seth B has sent an invite to the previous participants. He will continue to work on registering participants as well as prepare the float, and purchase candy. There was discussion of hiring the Barbershop Quartet again this year. Further discussion will be had at the November meeting.

Santa Payment:

Discussion was had on how the payment to Santa has remained the same for several years. A motion was made by Bill S to raise the payment from $100 to $150. The motion was seconded by Gena W. All were in favor and the motion carried.

V Unfinished Business

Swing Sets:

Steve M reported that the Centennial site has been prepared and Gena W will double check with the company to see if the grade is adequate to install the swing set.

Discussion was had in regard to altering the plans at McKinley due to the proximity of a tree in the original location. It was decided to leave the old swing set and place the new one to the west. Gena W will call NuToys for confirmation of new location and notify Ray Z of confirmation.

Santa Fly-In:

Discussion was had about the possibility of moving the Santa Fly In date. It was determined to just leave the date as December 2nd for this year. Discussion was also had about purchasing our own Christmas tree so we do not have to borrow the one from the fire station.

At 7:15 a motion to adjourn was made by Linda D and seconded by Bill S. All were in favor and the motion carried.
