ABRAHAM LINCOLN MEMORIAL HOSPITAL: Heart Health Takes Spotlight At This Month’s Diabetes Group Meeting

Heartcheck

Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital issued the following announcement on Feb. 8.

Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital provides a free education group for people with diabetes mellitus and their family and friends. The group meets the third Friday of the month in the Wombacher Room at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln. This month the group will meet on February 15 at 11am and discuss the timely topic of heart health. February is American Heart Month meant to bring awareness about heart disease and how people can prevent heart disease. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that having diabetes can raise the risk for developing other dangerous conditions, especially heart disease and stroke.

The casual group meetings are free and do not require registration. Jennifer DiPasquale, a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator, leads the group

“The diabetes support group is a great opportunity to get practical and timely information about how to manage your diabetes,” DiPasquale said.

An estimated 8.6 percent of adults in Logan County have been diagnosed with diabetes according to the Illinois Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Interested individuals should call DiPasquale at 217-605-5536 or email her at ALMHdiabetes@mhsil.com for more information. ALMH is a 25-bed critical access hospital located at 200 Stahlhut Drive in Lincoln. For more information, visit ALMH.org.
