American Chamber of Commerce In Poland issued the following announcement on Feb. 26.
CMS is pleased to announce that Andrzej Pośniak will take over the position of managing partner of the law firm’s Polish operations on 1 May 2019. Małgorzata Surdek, who is transferring the management of the firm after three years, will continue to run CMS’s dispute resolution practice, combining her practice in Poland with her prestigious role of member of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris.
Andrzej Pośniak has successfully managed the tax advisory team in CMS’s Warsaw office for over four years. In that time, he significantly increased the team’s size and revenues and broadened its portfolio of clients and prestige projects. Andrzej Pośniak also manages the Central-Eastern European tax practice and is a member of the CMS global tax practice’s management team. For the last three years, he has been a member of the advisory team supporting Małgorzata Surdek in the management of CMS’s business in Poland. As General Counsel, he was also responsible for legal, tax and regulatory risk management with regard to the firm’s activities on the Polish market.
“On 1 May I will pass the management of the firm in Poland to a partner who combines experience in managing with an ability to observe market trends and respond to clients’ changing needs. From the moment I took over as managing partner of CMS, Andrzej has been involved in setting the direction of development of the firm, and together we have created our business strategy. He is thus very well placed to continue this direction of growth and development, which is good news for both our clients and our lawyers,” says Małgorzata Surdek, Managing Partner of CMS in Poland.
“Over the past three years, we have successfully recruited experts with recognised market achievements to seven of our key practices, including the banking and finance practice, the infrastructure practice and the transaction and tax advisory team. As always, we are committed to working in a competitive and changing environment to provide our clients with services even better suited to their needs and to give our lawyers the best opportunities to develop their careers,” says Andrzej Pośniak, who takes up the position of managing partner of CMS in Poland on 1 May 2019.
The change of CMS Poland’s managing partner is a result of Małgorzata Surdek’s appointment to the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Court of Arbitration in Paris, the leading international arbitration institution supervising arbitration based on the ICC Rules of Arbitration. Małgorzata Surdek is one of two lawyers who represent Poland in arbitration disputes conducted by International Court of Arbitration during the three-year term of office 2018-2021.
