Metro Springfield nursing home designated subpar in federal ranking

Nursinghome

One nursing home in Metro Springfield received a below-average score from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) after the federal agency updated its nursing home rating system for consumers in April.

The updates on the CMS Nursing Home Compare Web tool, which rates nursing homes on a scale of five stars to one star, aim to improve the accuracy of the site’s information and encourage better care outcomes for patients, according to CMS. Changes to the inspection process, additional staffing data and more quality measures are reflected in the updated ratings, CMS reported.

The Metro Springfield nursing home is among 151 nursing homes in Illinois that received ratings of a single star. Those with five stars are deemed to provide above-average care, while those that received one-star rankings are considered to be below average in quality, according to CMS.
