Former state university employee Snyders paid in $22K to pension fund, could collect $258K in retirement

Former state university employee Norman Snyders, who retired in January 2019, saved $21,778 toward a pension over 3 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Snyders would collect as much as $258,049, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Sangamon Sun.

The projection assumes Snyders received $5,424 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Snyders will have already received $22,694 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
