Former state university employee Bassimer paid in $32K to pension fund, could collect $388K in retirement

Former state university employee Karen Bassimer, who retired in November 2017, saved $31,761 toward a pension over 14 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Bassimer would collect as much as $387,518, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Sangamon Sun.

The projection assumes Bassimer received $8,145 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Bassimer will have already received $34,075 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
