Former state school employee Tattersall paid in $8K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $309K in retirement

Former state school employee Patricia Tattersall, who retired in July 2018, saved $8,190 toward a pension over 3 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Tattersall would collect as much as $309,230, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Sangamon Sun.

The projection assumes Tattersall received $6,499 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 2 years of retirement, Tattersall will have already received $13,193 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
