St. John's Hospital Springfield Illinois issued the following announcement on Dec. 15.
HSHS St. John’s Hospital received approval from the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board today for its intensive care unit (ICU) renovation and expansion project. This $17.2 million project will update outdated ICU rooms and add eight new ICU beds. The project also includes adding 32 “medical/surgical” beds in existing space on the third and fourth floors. It will bring the total number of licensed beds to 422.
Julie Goebel, vice president of strategy for the Central Illinois Division of Hospital Sisters Health System said, “We appreciate the board’s finding that our modernization and bed expansion project is in conformance with all board criteria, and there is no opposition to this project. This will enable St. John’s to make needed upgrades to our ICU and increase the number of beds in ICU and the medical-surgical areas to meet regional demand for tertiary services.”
With today’s approval, this project will begin in the first quarter of 2020.
