Athens School District 213 Board of Education met Jan. 27.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The regular meeting of the Board of Education of the Athens School District, Athens, Illinois was called to order by President Penrod on January 27, 2020 at 7:00 p.m.

Members Present: Gordon, Mayfield, Penrod, Purchis, Westervelt

Mr. Shiffer arrived at 7:11 p.m.

Members Absent: Woodrum

Administrators Present: Laird, Rhoades, Reed, Szoke, Binegar

Visitors Present: A. Trueblood, M. Butler, K. Edgar, FFA Officers (L. Adams, T. Bohannan, K. Davison)

RECEPTION OF VISITORS, PETITIONS, COMMUNCIATIONS

There were no comments from visitors, petitions or communications during the regular meeting.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA

The agenda was approved as presented.

CONSENT AGENDA

Motion by Mr. Gordon, seconded by Mrs. Mayfield to approve the consent agenda, including the December 16, 2019 Regular Meeting Minutes, December 16, 2019 Executive Session Minutes and financial reports.

APPROVAL OF MONTHLY BILLS

Motion by Mr. Gordon, seconded by Mrs. Mayfield to approve the bills, payable for January 2020, in the amount of $779,639.69.

REPORT OF THE SUPERINTENDENT

Personnel Recommendations

Motion by Mr. Gordon, seconded by Mrs. Mayfield to approve the employment of Ms. Sheri Tucker, as a part-time aide, at Cantrall Elementary School, effective immediately, and Mr. Russ Witmer, as a volunteer girls soccer assistant, effective for the 2019-20 school year.

Motion by Mr. Gordon, seconded by Mrs. Mayfield to approve the transfer of Mr. Matt Rhoades from his position as Junior High Principal, to the position of High School Principal, effective for the 2020-21 school year.

Trap Shooting Team

Motion by Mr. Gordon, seconded by Mr. Purchis to approve the Menard County Sportsman Club to use the Athens school name for a club Trap Shooting Team.

Let Greenhouse Bids

Motion by Mr. Gordon, seconded by Mrs. Mayfield to approve letting bids for a new greenhouse.

School Maintenance Grant

Motion by Mr. Gordon, seconded by Mrs. Mayfield to approve the application for a School Maintenance Grant.

Seligman Scholarship

Motion by Mr. Gordon, seconded by Mrs. Mayfield to approve 10 scholarships in the amount of $1,500 each for FY20.

Policy Manual Updates

Motion by Mr. Gordon, seconded by Mrs. Mayfield to approve the policy manual updates that were presented at the December board meeting.

INFORMATIONAL ITEMS

Construction Update

Mr. Penrod and Mr. Laird reported on the status of the building project to date and provided a budget update.

The December 31st enrollment report was presented for the Board’s review.

Suspension Report

The suspension report was presented for the Board’s review.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORTS

Mrs. Binegar, Mr. Rhoades, Mr. Szoke and Mr. Reed reported on recent & upcoming activities at their schools.

There were no announcements.

ADJOURNMENT

Mr. Penrod adjourned the meeting at 8:19 p.m.
