City of Athens City Council Met August 10

City of Athens City Council met Aug. 10.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

Mayor Bob Dowell opened the meeting and thanked everyone for attending. He asked for a veteran to lead the pledge. All stood and Chief Tim Becker led the pledge. Clerk Cindy McFarland called roll. Those in attendance were Mayor Bob Dowell, Clerk Cindy McFarland, and Aldermen: Amy Chernowsky, Rachel Lantz, Butch Nichols, Chris Reichert, and Angella Thompson, Alderman Larry Buhr was absent. Also, in attendance were Linda Wasilewski, Tom Croft Sr, Gary Richardson, Michael Lockwood, and Hayley Yoakum.

Motion made by Alderman Chernowsky, seconded by Alderman Lantz, to approve the police, treasurers', water, sewer, streets and alleys, fleet maintenance, cemetery, and office manager's reports, Ayes: Chernowsky, Lantz, Nichols, Reichert, and Thompson, Motion passed.

Motion made by Alderman Nichols, seconded by Alderman Reichert, to approve the July council meeting minutes and the payment of the July bills. All ayes. Motion passed.

Mayor Dowell said the weather radio drawing would not be held tonight because they had not arrived yet. Also, he had a couple updates. Robby Bluett had called and said that bids from the SCADA system people would probably be in Tuesday or Wednesday. Michael Lockwood had called and said that he had checked around and that no one in the area does ice-pigging anymore, and well #6 has not been cleaned because a shut-off for the well has not been located. Michael will follow up with our engineer

Alderman Lantz said that there had been a cemetery meeting that night. Linda Wasilewski would like letters to go out to people who need to clean up before mowing. Linda said that she is getting a quote for tree removal. Also, Linda said that there are lots of kids in town who would like to play at the old park. Linda said that she knows someone who would build picnic tables. Also, some of the kids would like a bike track. Mayor Dowell said that he agrees and that he will be looking into this. He also mentioned again the possibility of having a small pavilion in honor of the late Alderman Canterbury

The Mayor thanked everyone, and the meeting adjourned at 7:07pm.
